Multi-faceted actor, director, producer and screen writer Dennis Hopper was often compared to James Dean. The pair were great friends and it was Dean who got Hopper his first screen break, eventually working together on "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955) and "Giant" (1956).
Hopper's 1970's marriage to Michelle Philips lasted less than a week and in 1971 he was arrested for partying stark naked in a Los Angeles park. He proved to be too off-beat for a mainstream audience, although he appeared in the film "The American Friend" (1977) and "Apocalypse Now" (1979).
Hopper cleaned up in 1980's and gave a remarkable performance as the psychotic Frank Booth in David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" (1986). He later played the volatile star Victor Drazen in the sensational television series "24".
