The renowned pinup photographer Earl Moran shot this early nude image of Marilyn Monroe in1946.
Moran’s widow told Jim Watters (editor of Life magazine) about unpublished reference photos in her husband’s files. Watters passed on this information to Gary Cole, director of photography at Playboy, who immediately bought the rights. Moran didn’t believe himself to be a ‘proper’ photographer & never intended the pictures to go to print.
It was published for the first time along with other of Moran’s photos in the January 1987 issue of Playboy. This was to be a tribute edition to Marilyn Monroe, written by Hugh Hefner.
